Well/Sick Care for Teens
Wilkes County Health Department provides complete health care for Wilkes County teenagers. The Health Department will see teens for well check visits (regular health care check-ups and screenings) and for sick visits if they do not have a doctor. Patients can receive physical exams, laboratory services, immunizations, sports physicals, medications and referral when necessary. Wilkes County Health Department also offers care management for those who are Medicaid eligible. Services for teenagers are confidential; however, teenagers are encouraged to discuss their health needs with their parents or guardians.
In addition, Wilkes County Health Department provides care for high school teenagers at each high school for one day each week on the MESH Unit (Mobile Expanded School Health). Screenings, referrals, sports physicals and age-appropriate education are provided and services are coordinated with the school nurses.
